HUDSON OPERA THEATRE

(performed in concert)

Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” is a radiant example of Russian lyric opera. Based on Aleksandr Pushkin’s novel in verse and utilizing Pushkin’s words throughout, it is a deeply moving tale packed with lush melodies, buoyant dances and a heart-stopping duel. Superbly crafted, intense and with dramatically rich orchestrations, the opera is uniquely Russian, but with a universality that has made it globally popular. The characters are remarkably fresh, and like all of us, they must live with the consequences of their decisions, decisions which, while they have devastating repercussions, ring horribly true.
