Amy Maude Helfer, mezzo-soprano
Ms. Helfer is gaining attention as a versatile singing actor. This season, Amy’s performances include a company debut as Phoebe (Yeomen of the Guard) at Winter Opera Saint Louis, alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah at the Hellenic American Conservatory, and reprisals of Leila (Iolanthe) and Kate (Pirates of Penzance) with New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players (NYGASP). Upcoming performances include Cole Porter and Mozart concerts at the Sanibel Festival, and a role and mainstage company debut as Mercedes (Carmen) with Opera Theater of Connecticut.
Amy made several debuts in 2015: at Carnegie Hall as alto soloist in Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Tessa (Gondoliers) with NYGASP, Nancy (Albert Herring) at Bronx Opera, and Petra (A Little Night Music) at Madison Lyric Stage. Also with NYGASP, roles include Phoebe (Yeomen) at NY City Center & the International G&S Festival/ UK, Saphir (Patience), Kalyba (Utopia, Limited), and Pitti-Sing (Mikado). Operatic appearances include Cherubino (Nozze di Figaro) at Dayton Opera, Hansel (Hansel and Gretel) at Boston Lyric Opera, and Cenerentola at Quisisana, Maine.
Amy was a semi-finalist in the 2013 Lotte Lenya Competition, and Artist-in-Residence at Dayton Opera in 2013 and 2011. Amy joined Actors’ Equity in 2009. A native of Cheshire, Connecticut, Amy currently resides in New York City.
